Remember Hawaiian pizza was a Canadian invention. Pineapple when canned is an iconic product similar to Portuguese canned sardines. As such it is commonly used to give sweetness and bulk out a food and is a natural pairing with pork. I do not care for Pineapple due to the texture which is less of a factor while freshly harvested but grows rapidly over time or when canned.
