God or someone must really hate this man :(

This is so incredibly interesting regardless, I love the simple artstyle and the strong characters.

Whaaaaaat? Gotta be arson. Someone has it out for him. The obvious culprit is the bald guy (more likely a proxy), but that may be too obvious for fiction. I’m curious about the conversation between him and an employee at the end of last chapter. I read through it again and nothing sticks out to me as being incriminating or suggesting foreshadowing. I would be curious to hear the an interpretation of the conversation by a high-level or native Japanese speaker. I wonder if it could be a severe case of sub-context and reading between the lines. Or it could be a big red herring, what do I know? That conversation was the first thing I thought of when I saw the fire though.

Just to be clear: None of the above is meant to impugn the translators of this scanlation. I apologize if anything came off as questioning your abilities, that is not my intent. Thanks for continuing to work on this, I really enjoy it.

I have read the manga quite a while ago, so I don't know who did it anymore, but in the 1962 movie adaptation and presumably in the original edo novel it was Ritsu's lover who was jealous of Shigeji because it was the lover who, at first, took care of the children and was gonna get to live with Ritsu before Shigeji came along and took all of them for himself. But the lover was cut from the manga adaptation anyway, so all I can say is "stay tuned" because I really don't remember myself.

Go ahead and insult our Japanese skills all you like because none of us actually speak Japanese haha.
I thought we made it pretty obvious from including covers from the German publisher and making notes about the German translation being bad, but we translate from German. Unless you can find me a Japanese translator that'll have to stay that way, even if it's obviously less than optimal.
I like to think that it's still considerably better than nothing and that we can kind of overcompensate it with a very high resolution and good redrawing.

Ah, I see. That rings a bell, yes. Sorry, I read too many titles and don’t always keep that kind of thing straight. I guess I assume J -> E translation, but clearly that’s not always the case. I doubt I’ll forget it now though 😳

Thank you for keeping this one coming out regularly, it’s one of my favorites that being actively translated right now.

@BilliusX I'm glad you enjoy it. Fun Fact: Mochizuki's breakout success "Dragonhead" was originally also scanlated from German.
