...........Why is it a "betrayal" of the merchants to not be willing to put their lives on the line, instead of their valuables? They hired the effing mercenaries to deal with effing bandits. I don't understand by what corkscrew logic their unwillingness to involve themselves in some dumb bandit leader's death game is considered a bad thing here...

I'm used to these what-the-hell values-dissonance moments with manhua, but every time it makes me wonder.
