He thought humans were bad and bullying Shio and wanted to protect him. Probably because uncle was bullied during his childhood and didn't want his nephew to go through that.

He has a complex about being clear and thought a half alien like Shio was probably going to be lacking color-wise as well so he got a bit salty there.
