Yeah, volume 1 of the novel got cringe moment, and can be painful to read (first hand experience).
Bear with it until story of volume 2 starts, because there they don't do so much of the "I'm a normies" appeal and focus more on telling stories about their way of living their youth.
That's also where a lot of the emotional whiplash goes from showing different dimensions of the characters (well, especially the girls).
Hope it can captures the many internal monologues.

@uishauvei : there was an attempt for translation, by same group that did Tomozaki, but seems to have stopped.

@rluka but the chara here is a lot more unnatural, the portrayal of the normies is too exaggerated unlike in jaku chara, actually I think normies ain't that different with normal people, they just have better way to express themselves that make them likeable and jaku chara can point this out better instead of just making a flashy character that's very exaggerated

@Franxx : yeah. It’s the weak point for volume 1 for me personally. They are not so exaggerated later, and if keeping the internal monologues, actually thinking a lot and try to pick up subtle hints from the people they interact with to understand their intention.

@Franxx i do also agree that the portrayal of the normies here are exaggerated (even in jaku but not this much) and that they aren't any different with other normal people but they are still on top of the hierarchy and the way they can influence the mood to their will is what makes them different
