the guy is a douche but I can guess his logic. The way he treated her when they were together(before the break up) and how desperate he is to get back together makes me think he genuinely likes her. From this I believe he ended it the way he did because he believes that chasing his career will only make her suffer if they continue the relationship. He ended it harshly so she wouldn't hang on to him. Though that's just my take away from it since if he was a genuine asshole she probably wouldn't have fallen that hard for him. Of course, none of that logic excuses what he did and it certainly doesn't justify him trying to squirm back into her life.

@Koyomiya He's not desperate to get her back. He thinks he's entitled to her. He still thinks shes some naive girl he can just pick up again after he came back from whatever the fuck he was doing. Being a piece of shit when you break up with someone isn't mercy. Its just being a piece of shit who doesn't know he's an asshole. Even so, coming back to her life after ending it like a turd only makes the way he broke up even worse. Hes taking advantage of her insecurities that he learned about when they were together, and using them to manipulate her into being taken.

I know you're not saying he's not an asshole, but you're giving him wayyyy to much credit. She was never the focus of his life, and he only thinks of himself when making decisions.
