So she peobabkynthought it was weird to see them as a pair on a Friday evening and figured it must either be because they're working on festival stuff or that there's something different going on that she doesn't know about and is curious.

Kind of sad that because Yuu drew an admittedly better picture for the festival, Umi immediately assumed her own drawing wasn't good enough and immediately tossed it without hearing no one else's take on it.

It's not just about being 1st and 2nd girl, it's practically 1st and 2nd everything at this point. It's no wonder Umi didn't want Yuu know about her friendship with MC for a while.

I love the dynamic between Umi and Yuu, neither are bad, neither are malicious with each other, in fact both actually genuinely adore each other. At the same time Yuu's bright and powerful personality cast a noticeable shadow over Umi, people never see her for herself but came pre-packaged with Yuu, so after a while she felt fatigued and suffocated of her space for her own identity, but at the same time she feels bad for thinking of her friendship with Yuu in that way, knowing that Yuu loves her sincerely without any malice.

Their name illustrates their relationship perfectly, assuming the author did it deliberately.
Ama (Heaven/Sky) Mi (Sea) - Yuu (Evening) -> The sky above the sea (Umi).
Asa (Morning) Nagi (Calm) - Umi (Sea) -> The calm morning after night (Yuu).

I also like the way Yuu just blast through and immediately intrude Maki's house and check. The author really write and understand their character well, Yuu is not going the typical mulling of what she was seeing, feeling insecure, betrayed or whatever. She was confused about it, thinking it over, and immediately, "Oh well, nothing good for me just overthinking it, might as well just ask them directly."
