They aren't properly even in love yet and it's better to not confess until they are sure of their feelings for each other. Pre-mature feelings make a mess out of relationships.

I don't mean that they need to do it next chapter. Just that when the time comes I don't want to go through all the manga-standard song and dance of her assuming he still likes Yuu, him being conflicted over his old crush and somehow not being able to recognize his new feelings, the inevitable phase where Yuu ends up liking him so that we can have a proper sorta-triangle, and all that. I want a story that lets them be fun in a relationship instead of treating the confession like a finish line and that the only thing that matters is all the drama and nonsense in getting there. I enjoy these two's silly escapades together and I'm sick of stories where admitting your feelings is an endgame thing instead of the start of a brand new adventure.

OMG, thanks for the chapter. Loved this development and I was missing this so much since that last chapter with the extra taking up too much space. heart.

I.. actually don't like the mom. She comes across as kinda.. bitchy? Like, despite saying so, she clearly doesn't trust her son to be alone in a room with a girl. Which is just sad, and honestly pretty messed up on her end. You can be a sensible parent and not act like your teenage son is a potential sex offender.
I feel like she was measured in it cause you don't know what other inputs your son might be observing and respect isn't always high on the list in "boys talk" at school so she was like yeah I trust you but you shouldn't put yourself in situations where the slope is so slippery. I thought it was telling that even he said you're too relaxed cause he isn't being immature about it and does properly respect her and is just genuinely concerned as a friend should be. Sorry I have a thing about bad mom's and randomly wanted to share my perspective.

I think you might be misunderstanding something cause he doesn't like Yuu romantically and nowhere in the previous chapters does it imply that he does.

I've actually been reading the web novel and have gotten up to Chapter 157 and
there isn't an old crush vs new crush scenario like you're suggesting when it comes to confessing to Umi. Though, I will say that there IS some slight drama later down the road because of Umi's past friendships regarding Yuu.

The two of them are sho cuuuuute :qq:

Cracked up several times during this chapter. The mom is a great addition and surprisingly fleshed out. Also love the character designs and art in general, and while I was initially skeptical of the premise, the story progression and character development has been good. Nice to be pleasantly surprised.

It's so common in manga, yet so alien to me so I need to ask: Is offering one's bed to a guest, especially to a female guest, some actual form of hospitality in Japan or is that one more weird manga thing?

No worry, the WN already got more in-relationship chapters than before.

They're still in very early step of relationship. For Maki, she's the first person he can call a friend; and for Umi, someone she can freely show herself. But they haven't desired for anything more, just someone they can be comfortable with. Stepping up the relationship is when they start to want more.

Quite common in romcom story, they usually put weight to that "lovers" label. A right to step deeper into each other's personal life, and responsibility to be there for each other. Especially for story of first love.

Best is if they have guest room. If not, it’s just hospitality to offer the better bed (rather than letting them sleep on sofa or the floor). Although between friends there could be hesitation to get that much hospitality.

Also let them bath first with the cleanest water.

Not limited to female guest.

Why not let her sleep with mom… not sure on that part, but probably the awkwardness because of different generation. ^^;

Realistic mom character best mom character, I will not back down from that
not too realistic. She's oddly concerned about them being alone in same room together. And additionally says it's not ok to make advances on a girl (so if her concern had been correct, she would still have been berating him).
Besides, might just be used to western cultures, but isn't it a rarity in japan too for parents to not own a car (she didn't offer her a ride home)?
