In Japan, how direct are job applicants supposed to be about their reasons for applying for a job? Because as much as I sympathize with:
Why is that even a question? Of course I am applying for a job cause I want money, isn't that the point of a job ?
job interviewers in the United States will ask the question and expect an answer other than "I need money" or "I want to support my girlfriend", and I would expect similar or stricter in Japan where social conversations tend to be less direct than in the US.
(Not related to Japan in particular) it's interesting how differently people rate the seriousness/merit of "I want money to hang out with my friends" and "I want money to make my girlfriend happy". "I want money to hang out with my friends" could mean "I'm not thinking hard enough about my personal long-term future", or (among other things) it could mean "I want my life to be more fun than mere survival".
