I think that if this feels stiff is because the ties that unites them are superfluous. This feels like an after effect of putting this story under the blanket for so long.
I think they are rushing an end, or they have something prepared to deepen the bond between them outside the superficial.

And Lee Him Hyun is popular for his art style rather than his stories. He collaborators with Im-Dal Young the most (Unbalance and Freezing the two most popular examples)
