Considering D-Gray-man does this mean he severed a link in the entirety of its existence of the earl from one part and it may be possible to see him again....

The info above for this oneshot says it was adapted from D.Gray-man, but that isn't true. It just has some concepts and one character in common - and in any case, it pre-dates D.Gray-man.

Before the author wrote D.Gray-man, she created two different one-shot manga. Info on Wikipedia explains that because Continue wasn't popular, Hoshino's publisher recommended that she create a manga series based on Zone instead. That series became D.Gray-man.

To those who don't know, this isn't connected to D. Gray man. It's a different setting but made by the same author, Katsura Hoshino. The protag of this story does remind me of that kid from the first Volume of D. Gray-man whose friend was turned into an Akuma.
