Another note: the most common slang term for “straight“ in Japan (nonke) is better understood as “not that way” ie “not gay”.
Just lumps all more complex orientations into “straight with extra steps”.

Rooted in heteronormativity and homophobia making it “easier” to be in relationships with women and thus there being anxiety that a partner that is anything but gay is at risk of leaving you because it’s “too hard” or “too dangerous“ because they have the ”choice” as to whom they love.
I used to think I was pan, mentioned that when I was talking to a couple gay people in nichoume the one time I went there (autistic and SENSORY OVERLOAD) and they just frowned and walked away. Said it to my (bi) friend “oh, yeah. Don’t say that. People just think of you as straight.”
BulllllllSHIT.

Soooo, yeah. “You were straight.” Accurate translation, but feh!

Meanwhile I just talked to someone the other day who insisted that bisexuals “are homosexual, just not exclusively”. This person is bisexual. And clearly a moron.
The word “lesbian” doesn’t mean anything anymore (don’t get me started), so I gave up on using it and was going with “homosexual woman” and now I guess I’m just a dyke! Or a “woman exclusively attracted to other women”. But then there are people trying to include “some” non-binary people in a sub-category of women, so I might end up with a secret orientation. I’m married anyway. Already don’t use any flags. I’m trans and find the triangled flag othering and pandering, and people get angry if one uses just 🏳️‍🌈.
So my van now has a mogan Dovid magnet and a Fokofpolisiekar sticker on it, and nothing else.
(also if I rocked any pride anything zoomers would walk up and try to have a gay-ass conversation or wink, nod, thumbs up… I’m buying toilet paper and avocados! Leave me alone and ring me up, let me pay, and leave! I dress halfway to frum avoiding any potential chance of any colour combination that might dog whistle unintentionally, now.)

Aw, yes, lift each other, don’t feel like it’s a competition.
