I was going to make a comment about the exact same thing. While Waluigi is fixing supercars out of personal interest and passion, he still needs to cover his own expenses and make a living. Does he even make art anymore? The early chapter made it sound like he left all that behind. He could still have savings, but it would be pretty unfair to make him spend those for the sake of someone else's car.
