The girl is in love with him, but still rejects him. Why? How could anyone believe for one second that he'd be dissatisfied with her, even after getting to know 'the real Nanoka' or whatever. In fact he already knows the "real her" because she's his best friend! If it's about her career and she's willing to put her career over her love, then she didn't really love him that much to begin with.
