Why is the translation of this series so weird? Why do all the characters speak in bizarre accents and call each other odd things?

Why is the translation of this series so weird? Why do all the characters speak in bizarre accents and call each other odd things?

The one that speaks in Cockney speaks in heavy Osaka dialect in the original. I don't stand by that choice any more and favor using Northern English, half way to Scottish for that now which I feel is better.
