tbh, i can see why they didn't seal the deal, especially back then. a 20 year old banging a 15 year old is pretty... yeesh. the whole point of the manga was comedy, and having them actually fuck (even if they're adults) is more odd than amusing. i don't know if the mangaka initially intended for them to get together, but i imagine he felt them consummating their relationship would've been way too much. he wrote himself into a bit of a corner, and the celibacy thing was the best he could come up with. at least that means they won't end up with habsburg-y kids lmao

Haha. I called this years ago when only the German translation was available. People at MyAnimeList didn't really believe this kind of 'gatcha!' ending existed, but here it is. There are some boundaries that even the most suggestive of authors just won't cross, understandably enough. I don't think all the loose ends were fully tied up, but it is what it is.
