so current Allen, who is a host for nea, is a younger amnesiac version of the original Allen Walker(who originally agreed to host nea) who was having his life siphoned away by apocraphy (making him younger) but saved when Lavi (the pervious bookman jr) sacrified himself to save him merging their souls. Apocraphy after seeing that thinks to cultivate this new allen to sacrifice for the heart and erases his memories and fucks off hoping this new Allen would make a goated sacrifce if left on his own. THEN we get to the clown circus backstory he meets mana (who is the earl? or something related) who adopts him but then they get jumped again by apocraphy then mana becomes the earl and cross picks up allen THEN the story starts.

is that right? am I confused about something here.

I wouldn't say he left him on his own since during the flashback when the stuff with the Earl was going on and a bit before Cross stopped it, we saw apocrypha doing something to make the Earl lose control (he was doing something, can't remember exactly what) so I would say he was doing stuff from behind the scenes to make him into the ideal sacrifice for the heart.
