Alright, this is where the series loses me.

Allen is so desperate to save his friend he gets a super mega desperation powerup...and it makes no sense at all. Who is this guy Allen is supposedly friends with? We've literally never seen him before! Allen has never interacted with him, let alone gotten to be such close friends that he's able to pull new powers out of his ass to try to save him.

It's a shame, this series was pretty interesting, but this one moment of bad writing broke my suspension of disbelief pretty irrevocably.

Well... He did get his all his emotions, probably some memories as well since he figured out how he changed. So i'd say its your fault for not understanding the story.
Given allens personality, he definitely felt horrible with those emotions.

also after rereading the whole thing and getting here again, i realized the author was also trying to foreshadow the true nature of innocence here.
