You know it was supposed to be a joke and her trying to mess with him?

People need to look not at single chapter but whole story.

If normal guy manages to snatch "national beauty" as a girlfriend. It's not surprising that he is struggling with self esteem. The true drama of this story is that they aren't talking about it.
I know it was supposed to be a joke, but effectively it wasn't. She used "a joke" as a safe tool to manipulate his current vulnerable state. Intentionally or not, it was a malicious move.

I'm not sure what kind of point you are trying to make here. The issue is that he is having self-esteem issues and expresses it, yet she is basically dismissing them, and not doing much to ease his worries. She instead plays off of those to push him into expressing his affection, which is IMO the exact opposite of what she is supposed to do - express her affection in the context of not caring about their difference in status, or emphasizing that he still has time before he have to worry about his career (since he's in high school) and that she is fine waiting for him to do that, etc.

And this is not a unique incident - she keeps acting like they are equal, but they are clearly not. She both holds all the cards to support him and is the only person who can since he can't confide in anyone else, due to both - the nature of their relationship and her work.

I'm just not sure if the author is portraying this as an example of an unhealthy, imbalanced relationship, and is planning to address this later, or do they genuinely think that this is fine. This relationship has so many issues, that them being step-siblings is not even worth mentioning. I've said it in one of the previous chapters, and I'll say it again: this feels like a relationship doomed to fail and could only be saved by the power of plot armor.

Sure, but also consider the fact that the dude is really struggling with his self esteem, so a joke that she might just leave him for someone else, especially when he already feels inferior to that particular person, is in extremely poor taste, and as the other person mentioned, very manipulative.

And the story does not bring attention to it being wrong, instead we get a makeup sex scene and everything is supposed to be solved with that. (until the next drama inevitably starts if this side ship keeps being explored)
Oh, don’t forget: FBI-SAN, WE FOUND A SUS SISTER

Man, she looks mature when she's angry, but like a kid when she wanted to be spoiled.
And wow, they actually did it.

If you've read the previous title, it's understandable why he sometimes struggles with feeling valued in the relationship even beyond the status disparity and age gap. She more or less imposed a physical relationship on him at a fairly young age and, though he's since developed genuine romantic feelings for his stepsister, there are times when he perceives things as even more abnormal than they actually are and wonders if she'd be more fulfilled with something "normal", something he knows he can never give her.
Is that from untranslated chapters of Yoru ni Torokeru?

Lol yeah. I have a feeling this will be played straight and treated as ok based on what I've seen. There's an untranslated work from this author about a teacher-student couple that is an unbelievably manipulative and toxic dynamic (the student is the manipulative one!). Shima Tokio usually has pretty astute observations of relationship dynamics, but she goes into turbo toxic mode whenever large age gap/power imbalance becomes involved. It's still pretty entertaining though.

Why is the numbering off on this series? This MD posting is way less than the others - but their 30.5 is pointing to when the sister is being interviewed for her upcoming series.

"The others" are autoscraper bots who take it from here and use it for ad revenue, all for the low low price of infecting your machine with viruses. Please do not use other sites, I don't post releases anywhere but here and on my own blog.

The numbering is off as there was a reorganization in chapter numbers when the first volume was published, and the bots have no idea how to deal with this nor do they care.

That's the beauty of Chromebooks. The 30 seconds about MS and Apple laptops being more vulnerable is for once, truth in advertising (grin). Cue Bruce Banner scene from The Avengers: "That's my secret Cap. I'm always on Chromebook" :) That - and a good Script Control Extension.

Or just get a browser that blocks off all the garbage and use whichever machine you like, like god intended for PC to be.
