@kaarme to my understanding it's something to do with elements from the periodic table, which is why shes able to make diamonds or a sulfur explosion ect. so i don't think she can inherently just change one thing to another at will but it's elements have to make up that composition for it to go from one thing to another. Idk if im right, it's just what i gather

The problem here is that the author has crossed two different mining-related diseases.

Black Lung doesn't come from silver dust, it comes from coal and is fairly obvious from first sighting. While there are other particles that can act as fibers to shred the lungs, we don't know which ores are causing them.

The mining-related "curse" most associated with silver is actually MERCURY POISONING, and entirely different kind of disease that needs a different treatment.

To everyone bitching that the author is using "Black Lung" when coal isn't involved, coal mining isn't the only type of mining that causes Pneumoconiosis. It's just the most famous due to coal minings explosive popularity relatively close to the modern age (large mines started developing in the 1800s, compare gold and silver's much lengthier history), and coal's innate properties that make it more likely to cause the disease. While I will admit that mercury poison would be more fitting, Pneumoconiosis can be caused by any profession that involves inhaling a lot of dust particles unprotected, and I doubt these miners have good mining conditions and knowledge of such things.

is it bad to say I want her to fail for "plot"? feel good story or not, it can't all be good, and if she was able to change compositions in the "human microbiome" that be too OP, it'll be recognized that she can cure people from inside (to a certain extent) from this point on. saving people like this feels too cheap even when you try to relate back to how the protagonist knows periodic compositions

@imkyo No, I'm fairly sure she can. Wasn't this piece of silver also created by her? In the first chapter it seemed like she created the wedding rings for her parents out of thin air (literally). While air does contain carbon for the diamonds in the rings, it wouldn't contain gold, platinum, or whatever the rings themselves were made of. So, I reckon her power would be at the level of protons, neutrons, and electrons, at least, if not quarks.

Possibly her power was explained at some point better, but it's a lot of trouble to find those scenes.

@Kaarme I think it's on the first chapters of this manga. Iirc, she did explain her power that either create or modify atoms and such (forgot which one). She did repair a broken Brooch that led to the explanation of said power.

@kaarme so since you didnt want to i did, shes says her powers is " The ability to change the chemical combination and construction or arrangement as i please." (chapter 1 pg 14) she also says explains it in more detail in chapter 8. Essentially she can change any elemental composition at will and the structure of the atoms to ie changing coal to diamond. It seems that her power doesn't have an established limit yet so maybe these next chapters will show us the limit to what she can do. Like not being to manipulate elements inside of people.

FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT, if the existing entity of elements doesn't have the same elements as the entity she wants to transform it into ie the dirt particles into water, then she can't.

IDK if i'm right and i sure ain't about to go looking for the raws to see if i am with my poor understanding of kanji, but i'd say i have an ok argument.
