Hell, even in a first world country like the US, gay people are more likely to be killed than in Japan.

Technically yes. But not for the reasons you think. There were 18 suspected anti-gay hate crime murders in 2021 in America.

While tragic, that's 18 in a country of 331,000,000 people. Over 1/3 of a billion people for a population. It's... statistically unquantifiable when you're talking about tens of millions of people and there's 18 suspected cases.
Yes, you're more likely to get murdered in America if you're gay. Because you're more likely to get murdered, period.

This is further exacerbated by the fact that Japan does not have hate crime legislation. Yes, Japan has an incredibly low murder rate
(...which is really helped by Japan ALSO not figuring in suicide deaths to homicide rates unlike the U.S. where suicides are counted in statistical figures like "gun homicides", so about 26,000 deliberate suicide deaths per year are dishonestly catagorized as "firearm homicides" and used in criminal statistics)
. But we also have no idea if any of those people were murdered because they were gay. Because Japan literally doesn't prosecute for it or consider it or record it for crime statistics.

I'm not saying that there's a secret homophobic hate crime spree in Japan. There isn't one. But the statistics for Japan are about as relevant as for America - not enough to make a conclusive result.

I am not american, nor am I defending the US

I'm trying to tell you that these rights are extremely important for us to actually live, safety is good and all but when we are vulnerable to ample discrimination in the workplace, for hiring, in healthcare and many other things we suffer, a lot, and trying to minimize such issues with "hey at least you're alive" isn't a good standard to follow

"trans people still can get jobs" isn't a good response at all, they still get refused out of many options, and being in poverty opens you up to a lot more violence

Employers have a right to not hire you. It's another matter if they directly tell you "We're not hiring you because you like the same sex" or whatnot. But if you just assume that's the case... That's on you.

I don't know where you live, but I can tell you right now, having a victim mentality - even if you are one - is not going to help you in the long run.
