What I think would be the most interesting conclusion to the arc is if Junpei, with his deep regret over having delivered a methodical, 'correct' yet boring variation, would actually end up winning the competition. It would be so deeply painful to feel such a hollow victory, especially after having seen Ruo there now too.
On that note, the roles having reversed and Ruo being the wild one while Junpei is the boring one is really such an expertly handled shift, because this wasn't a twist at all, we knew all of this. That Junpei had toned down and has been methodically drilled to adhere to classical ballet while Godai continued to imprint more spark to Ruo. The shift just kind of crept up on us. I think a lot of readers expected Junpei to go wild during his performance, myself included. It was a sort of twist that ended with me going "oh, so that's the performance... actually yeah, that does make sense given the last 20 ch".
This will likely be a huge turning point now. Rou threw down the gauntlet and Junpei now knows for sure he isn't doing what he himself wants to be doing, even if the judges think it's good. It's not the type of ballet he wants to perform. I can't quite see how the author will approach this now, though. Does he quit the current troupe and go back to Godai? Go somewhere else entirely? Lots of paths..
