Probably. They misdirected people with the zombies and the female teacher by making us think she was the antagonist (and even portray the gym teacher as a loveable oaf) only to swerve and show that the gym teacher was a giant creepy piece of shit and is (somehow?) exploiting said female teacher as well.
Which makes no sense when you consider he invited her to go to a drinking party just prior to this incident which she declined and yet she's in a bunny girl outfit at his apartment a couple hours later? Also she still has control over her zombies cause she's holding a talisman and he's obviously preoccupied with the shit going on in the gym, why the fuck is she going along with this? Regardless, unless there is another bullshit swerve then gym guy is likely to remain full creeper with zero redemption and the female teacher will receive some sort of redemption instead (like they'll shoe horn in some BS about the gym guy coercing her into using her zombies against granny and co. and she didn't really want to do it).
I'm starting to get a bit fed up with the author just randomly throwing curve balls without any sense of narrative cohesion. It's one thing to keep the audience on their toes, it's another bait them constantly only to 180 rendering previous baits not only worthless but outright contradictory to the current plot. It's the Rian Johnson school of "subverting expectations" except the expectation being "subverted" is decent plot structure. The set pieces are nice and the action shots are fantastic but the overall writing is really starting to wear me down with its lack of focus.
She needs money for her mom and he might have just found out that afternoon. Or he doesn't know she has the zombie ability at all. I also guessed that he would be a shithead beforehand and she is an antagonist still if she is attacking the protagonists no matter her reasons. Same with the minotaur. I'm used to ghost power user to have more depth at this point. It's why im surpised this dude is just an irredeemable ass. I would be mad if he did get redeemed though.
I think she is working for Saint Germaine and wants to use the power for her mom but she still needs that money
now. Since this teacher has used women before it makes sense he would use the teacher now if he does know about her powers and isn't just trying to get freaky.
I don't really get what you mean by random curve balls or focus honestly. I feel like everything Tatsu writes have a revealed narrative reason for it as well as having a consistent tone and identity. Only time I felt like something was out of left field was when Mai and Ren were shown to have gravity powers out of nowhere but I wouldn't say that was bad. I mean that is the formula of each arc so far. Characters gets introduced, antagonist shows up, new character plays a part in beating the big bad. Comparing this to either chainsaw man or jjk I would argue that this series has way better focus and less "random" curve balls than either one of those stories (this is also coming from someone who likes how random and crazy chainsaw man is).
Completely fair if this story doesn't work for you btw I can understand your pov even if I don't agree with it. This goes from lighthearted wacky fun to fast paced action to soul crushingly sad but I am all in for it. I am curious what parts you consider bait.
