Translating that as "The Battle Between 1st and 3rd Place" rubs me wrong. It implies the first rankers fight against the third rankers when the actual meaning is that the first rankers and the third rankers each fight their respective battles. Tatakai can mean "battle", but also war; fight; conflict; struggle, match or competition.

adding guards is a bit of personal leeway, but I would prefer it over "Place(d)" or "Rank(ed)".
