When did she say it wasn't marriage? The only thing she says is "what're you daydreaming about?" in response to him freaking out about being eaten like a praying mantis, but she calls it marriage at the end of the previous chapter and doesn't say anything in this one about it being anything other than marriage.

Some series is made like this, made a bang in first few chapters and the world building will come later.
I think the reason is so they can catch more audience.
