Oh, it's good to see the old bully here, trying to be a better guy now.

Shuka x Kaname still going strong, great.

Japanese Swords aren't even that good. They only worked so well for the japanese because of their lack of good iron.
If they had used it against a plate armor, their "unparalleled" Glorious Nippon Steel Folded Over 1000 Times wouldn't work that well

Sekiro shows a good example of it, with the Armored Warrior taking effectively no damage from your katana. Japanese weapons were created to counter Japanese (and to an extent, East Asian in general) armor. It’s remarkably ineffective against plate armor because it was not designed to be, and there was no need for it to be, seeing that plate armor was not used in Japan and East Asia in general.

Their prized swords are so-so at best, but the technique itself (covering hard edge with softer steel) is good and pretty popular in knife making. Folding n-times is mostly to get rid off impurity and improve homogeneity, which means jack shit because modern metallurgy does the job (also folding too many times defeats the purpose of multilayer blade so 1000 is exaggerating).

I like it when he makes guns and traps, please don't go full-on sword porn.

Japanese swords in general are heavier (more dense), so they cut better than their European counterparts. But because they are "unbendable", when used against something hard like plate armor, they lose their edge very quickly and sometimes just break. European spring steel swords, meanwhile- they would come out perfectly fine.

European swords of a comparable weight also have more reach.

So no, Japanese Katanas aren't the best swords in the world. They're great against unarmored opponents because of their sheer cutting power, but not that great when there's armor or even another sword involved.

They look damn cool though.

Now that Kaname has unlocked the next tier of Unlimited Blade Works, I hope he starts making Broken Phantasms again. That was one of the cooler aspects of his power that fell by the wayside as he got martial arts training and then spammed Cast Gun.

Oh god the author did the meme of "GLORIOUS NIPPON STEEL". Seriously I get the Japs love their culture and swords but anyone with a brain knows that Katanas are only good for unarmored/ lightly armored opponents and that they can break like any other damn weapon. Where did this lie of unbreakable and unbendable swords even come from cause it sounds like they discovered some sort of super metal in Japan. Hell European swords depending on type could do more damage than a Katana even against armored opponents depending on how it is used.
