I get that "love makes people stupid" is an actual thing, but this girl takes it to a whole new level. She cannot function at all whenever she's with him.

They aren't a couple, she's not officially taken, so it's not a bad advice to say "try matching other people, maybe you'll find someone else?"
She probably assumed her current dating partner wasn't going to well since she saw her stressing out.
It's good advice in general, in most cases I would say the same thing to someone.
