She has been on the phone with someone besides the fake trucker guy so maybe she's part of some yakuza like organization versus needing to deal with cops versus being the lead as opposed to there being higher ups that cleans up after her messes/takes care of the bodies

Idk how much "pull" a journalist would have compared to a cop even if they work together
