Man, this is yet another hard one and feelings got thrown left and right.
I would say this - Nana is wrong here because neither her nor Nene nor Emi knows what Soprano was like when she was younger and how much light Mirei brought in her world. What Mirei needs is more self confidence, the way she is right now she cannot help anyone - on the contrary, she can only make things worse as we have seen here.

And the more this story goes the more I respect Emi. Despite her feelings she is supporting Mirei as much as she can, knowing very well that her heart is going to get crushed eventually because of that. Truly peak character.

Cara, essa foi mais uma situação difícil, e os sentimentos ficaram à flor da pele.
Eu diria o seguinte: Nana está errada aqui, porque nem ela, nem Nene, nem Emi sabem como era Soprano quando era mais jovem e quanta luz Mirei trazia para o seu mundo. O que Mirei precisa é de mais autoconfiança; do jeito que está agora, ela não consegue ajudar ninguém — pelo contrário, só piora as coisas, como vimos aqui.

E quanto mais essa história avança, mais eu respeito a Emi. Apesar dos seus sentimentos, ela apoia a Mirei o máximo que pode, sabendo muito bem que seu coração acabará sendo despedaçado por causa disso. Uma personagem verdadeiramente exemplar.:Chade:

It's unfortunate that I don't see it working out for her, because she is genuinely a good person.

That aside, I'm glad that Nene has turned out to have more depth of character than she initially appeared to when introduced. Her sister Nana needs to be honest with her more than anything, but I suspect that if she can face Nene properly, then a lot will end up working out for them both.

Nana was right about one thing, though. Emi touched on a lot of general truths, sure—but Mirei, for all the justification for how timid she has become, does need to think long and hard about her actual feelings for Soprano, and whether she can actually step up and be brave and act on them.

It's clear she needs to work through some important things that are holding her back, but it will only get harder the longer Soprano has to wait, especially now with Emi's feelings coming to light.

I think we all suspected in the last arc, when she emphasized sacrificing selfish desires for another’s happiness to Sap-chan in the Aquarium date. Still a bit heartbreaking.

Hmmmm so Emi definitely had feelings for Mirei, but does she still have them or has she moved on? The author might be setting up something between her and Nana here if she has moved on...

Also Nana's words are really quite cruel this chapter and have probably set Mirei's self confidence back about 20 chapters of development. Unless Mirei resolved to prove Nana wrong....

I feel so sad for Emi, having the "best friend/childhood friend" role that makes characters just get hurt over and over again

I feel bad saying this but how is emi in love with mirei? I get being concerned for her and caring about her but falling in love with someone who's relatively dead inside is a recipe for disaster. It makes sense for teenagers but as an adult I know all to well how rough that kind of love can be. I'm saying this from both sides too. As an adult with lifelong depression, my primary concern in interacting with mirei would be to get her into therapy fr T_T

This whole manga I keep feeling nervous for mirei's mental health. She's being pressured by the weight of soprano's love while simultaneously being unable to love herself. I love a good romance story but I want to see mirei get mental help before taking on the burden of love. Love is a beautiful thing, yet equally a heavy burden to bare. The mental burden for a depressed person can easily kill a relationship that should otherwise flourish. Although in my case it was for the best. Life feels way less heavy now.

Fingers-crossed mirei actually improves her mental health first with help from emi and soprano before feeling even more stress from a love triangle 0_0

God I was really hoping that Emi was going to just be that good of a person without the big reveal that shes actually been harbouring feelings shes not brave enough to say outloud for 5+ years. Then its all going to come flowing out and Mirei is going to feel betrayed and Soprano-chan will be all "So thats why you stuck around between Mirei and I" and its going to suck.

What would be so wrong with just letting her be an actual best friend for once.
