In case anyone is wondering, Matthew's recording is directed towards a Jewish-background audience, so he takes some time to establish that Jesus also had a physical connection to King David and also Abraham, which kind of physical pedigree is important to establish credibility for Jewish people, seeing as Priesthood and general authority roles were often genealogical. So while boring to us, it's intentional. A lot of things in the story of Jesus' birth in Matthew seem like random details to us but had specific meanings or callbacks to earlier Old Testament scripture.
For related reasons, many modern (especially born-again nondenominational) Christian churches will direct new Bible readers to read John first. It's a more simple retelling of Jesus' life with an emphasis on his role as a loving God and savior, so it's a lot easier to digest as well as, to some, more impactful right away.
