I don’t see it that way, they actually stopped the invasion but then reverted that outcome and didn’t stop it the 2nd time.

It’s like if you happened upon a train driving towards someone tied to the track and so you flip a switch changing the track and saving them but then you lost your wallet so you decide to go into the past so you don’t lose your wallet but due to that you lose your memories and are unaware of the train about to kill someone.

And then the train destroys the Earth.
