At this point, I'm not even surprised at this reveal. In fact, I would be more surprised if she had been killed.
There's no indication about the time that has passed by since Neneko's supposed death, and T.O. Neneko fan club meeting.
For all we know, there could be days, or even weeks, in between those parts. And then there's the question of how much time "A few days later" between T.O.'s Neneko fan club meeting and when the Minano AI fan club members surrounded Shinobu.
In other words, it could make zero sense that Neneko's swollen cheeks and bruises would have healed that much, or it could make perfect sense.

Many people are saying the manga sucks and all, but I'm actually impressed by the ability of the author to play on the modern social trends to make a twisted version of it.
Actually, I think this is not even far from the sordid stories we can hear related to idols, vtuber and the like in Japan. If you know where to look, you can actually get a glimpse of the darkest pit of hell the underbelly of the internet can lead.
People ruining themselves for a small dose of fake attention of the opposite gender, drowing in despair and bringing people on their fall.
Porn stars selling themselves to everyone around to get the chances to make a living off of it.
Also, a lot of female you might have seen watching earning money with their body will commit suicide in their fourties.
Heck, even a number of the most seemingly tame version of internet entertainments are falling. Lots of youtuber become predators because they can't manage well their celebrity. Even V-tubers who remain anonymous visibly have issues.
Gawr Gura and Korone are more than likely alchoolics. Gura developed an hard depression and almost gave up because of course, how can you even live with the constant attention and living on the cliff every day with thousands of creeps ready to quite litterally consume her if she gets doxxed and a constant flood of chat message all day.

I think that's more what I call "The Jared Effect" named after the guy from subway. He always had the predator predilections, but he didn't become brazen until he had his fame. Goddamn Alien wizard casting his spell again. So this isn't just a youtuber thing it's a fame and power thing.
That's because they only look at the series at surface level and let's be honest surface level this series is super fucked up and really isn't for most people. Especially for those that deny or are afraid their primal or darker urges.
