It's weird to be told that slimes suck over and over, when all evidence presented shows them as the greatest fighters of all.

Its because everyone else lacks creativity with their slimes and in straight-stats, they are weak and lack firepower. Its by using them the way those two do that they are powerful, but even that has limits as seen in the fight with the wild dragon and each other.

@duodecimus @Snowbold That is flawed narrative: author establishes something as weak with words but fails to show it in actual story. One moment everyone look down on slimes, the other it is found out that it's far from unprecidented that slime fighters are pretty good.

@kwendy "far from unprecedented" ? Come on, there has been ONE man whose story has been carefully pushed out of the spotlight who had a been a strong slime trainer. That's nowhere close to "far from unprecedented".
Even in the last chapter, (no spoil) you understand that slimes trainers are 99% of the time the weakest. It's just that for the sake of the story, of course the concentration of "slime" stories would gather around our MC. It doesn't mean that, when looking at the big picture, it's something common.

The third girl looks way more interesting than the others so far ?
Too bad these kind of manga has no solid story or character development.

So far the only SUCCESSFUL trainers we know of is the one of the legendary trio (which is the same guy that inspired the MC).
Then we have MC and the new girl, both seem good but they wouldn't win against a great god/dragon/equivalent level trainer. They still have room for improvement.
The whole clan of slime tamers are considered CURSED, even from this clan's point of view, only the new girl's trying to make this view change by becoming strong (and marrying someone who thinks of slime as she does). Her clan beside her is not strong, they're not "great" tamers.

With all we know, there's only ONE legendary slime trainer. The only good ones we know of are the MC and the new girl. That's it. Written black on white in the manga. Her clan is so bad they call it a cursed clan, other tamers are so bad she didn't even consider them as candidates. You have it : one legendary guy, two good ones, other than that, they're all believed to be utterly weak.

Her clan might actually be better than your average slime trainer but that's it. They developed techniques to try and become a bit stronger but so far, the way it's shown to us is that only her was truly able to use these techniques to such a level.

To put it another way, which characters in this manga are shown to both be weak battlers and slime trainers?

When you draw the venn diagram, there is no overlap. This is why being told that slimes suck by characters in the manga is weird, and bad story telling.
A good way to show it might be to note how a bunch of the maids/servants have a slime crest, and apparently chose menial labour over taking advantage of it.

I think the ranking system are talking about is strictly being their class because remember her sister has a god class Beast which means you would automatically be higher than the other ones so it must be for strictly their class or age group.
