My headcanon that Viola is actually an ancient witch that went insane with summoning powers, and was sealed into a baby's form and mind to stop her. The person she saw at that time was a friend that was forced to perform the sealing, and sent Viola to the future to escape punishment.

Phoenix is actual her old life's original familiar, that's why he came when she summoned him as Viola and is willing to give her his blood and etc.
