Manga piracy hurts the economy and we need to keep people paying for our hobby. Uploading licensed works makes this site a target for lawsuits and C+D letters. There's no need to upload licensed works here if you don't plan to make a site the "pirate bay" of manga.

Have you read any of the rules on this site? Please educate yourself before spewing such a diuretic post.

We don't allow licensed uploads as per the upload rules, without publisher verification or otherwise going through time delays.

This is specified in the upload rules.
Do not upload:[ul][li]Western comics.[/li][li]Scans of official releases, including raws.[/li][li]Bulk chapters (e.g. Ch. 1-10 as one chapter).[/li][li]Obtrusively watermarked images.[/li][li]Images saved from aggregator sites, if an original source is available.[/li][/ul]

@IchidoReichan
- With the exception of authors upload here themselves, nothing on the site is licensed in the West so C+Ds from Western licensees have no bearing
- The host doesn't give a shit about DCMA's
- And the Eastern publishers whom the raws belong to don't care cause it doesn't affect their own sales
What exactly do you imply by pirate bay?
In the first place, Manga licensing in the West grew to where it is because manga piracy made series popular.
Whether or not a series is dropped upon licensing is decided by the group translating. And if the official translation is shit, they may decide to pick it up again.
It was the pirates created the demand. It was they who created a market. And it is they who provide the competition and incentive to maintain quality.

Oh really? You mean this manga site matters more than the THOUSANDS of actual manga pirate sites? The ones where translators can't actually take down their work or have no influence over automated image rippers who use Ads to actually profit illegally? The ones that are actually MUCH MORE POPULAR THAN THIS SITE?

You mean the manga industry got SUPER LETHALY hurt by piracy and not shoddy low quality manga printings in foreign countries, poor translations, frequently dropped projects, lack of consistent digital monetization, no centralization, poor licensing and hoarding of translation rights, retarded localization and the slow demise of big bookstores like Borders and Barnes and Nobles?

Oh yeah, I like how you side with corporations shooting themselves in the foot instead of understanding why this site exists.

B&N is pretty cool but their selection is pretty weak in comparison to some local mom/pop shops in my area. Pretty sure Crazy was just using them as an apt example of a common physical distributors of goods that are on the down. ~But also fk em' for no black Friday sales in our specific department.

It cost 560.00 to own the whole set of BERSERK, LICENSED BY DARK HORSE!!! I'm sure they'll be happy to know you host the whole thing for free.

everything that is licensed is HOSTED BY YOU GUYS, One punch man, Ranma, berserk, blade of the immortal. Sure you have the rule "no licensed material" yet it is hard NOT TO FIND licensed.
Damn Pirates!!

The English license of everything you listed is not available on Mangadex. This isn't difficult to check.

Lies. Those are fan scanlations, often done years before licensing in the US. Which, mind you, isn't the only place in the world where english is at least one of administrative languages.

Damn Pirates!!
Yes, yes - we're all scum here.

You, as a moral person, have now only one option left - to fuck off and log off permanently, to never be seen again. Live up to your standards, no one likes a hypocrite.

Just a point of clarification: This site does not accept official releases of series, but it does accept fan scanlations of series, even if that series does happen to be licensed.

2.1 Scans of official releases or webcomics from official sources, such as original releases (raws) or officially translated releases, are not allowed to be uploaded.
2.2 The existence of an official translation has no relevance to the rules for uploading scanlated releases.
2.3.1 Using the translated script of an official release as the basis of a scanlation is allowed only if the script has been re-translated into a different language.
This is my interpretation of those rules:
- Not allowed: take the official Dark Horse Berserk volumes, scan them, and upload them here
- Not allowed: scan the original Japanese Berserk volumes, copy the translated script from the Dark Horse volumes into a scanlation, and then upload them here
- Allowed: scan the original Japanese Berserk volumes, do the translation/scanlation yourself, and then upload here
- Allowed: scan the original Japanese Berserk volumes, translate the script from the Dark Horse volumes into a different language (e.g. Spanish, French, etc.), and then upload here

So yes, those series are licensed, but the translations here are not the ones released by the licensors; they are the ones done by fans.

It's worth noting that even if we did have a policy of not hosting any series that have been officially licensed, that would be very difficult to manage because there are lots of countries out there that all have different sets of manga licensed. Example: some of my favourite manga series have been licensed in French, but not in English. (-_-)

Scanlation has always been a legal grey area and a point of controversy. Some argue that piracy hurts sales because who's going to buy something that they can get for free? Some argue that pirates are the largest fans and they make the most purchases. On an unrelated note, that reminds of this article that I read recently, which discusses scanlation and piracy in some detail: https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/07/manga-pirates-are-having-trouble-going-legit/ Not sure how I feel about it.

In any case, there are tons of other manga aggregator sites out there, but this site, although legally dubious, has a slight moral high ground over most of the other manga aggregator sites out there, because like Batoto before us:
1. This site preserves attribution to the scanlators.
2. This site does not profit from ads.

We're all pirates here though, not gonna deny that.

Kay, I'm gonna ignore you now.

You're obviously only here to pick a fight. You don't actually care about what we say or what actually is possible online and only want your objective at the expense of EVERYONE.

Not only that, you didn't actually respond to a single response so you're not here to talk, clearly you are only here for attention.

@ununseti If both physical and digital versions of the manga are no longer available for sale, with proof of evidence that there's no other way to support the author officially anymore, we'll allow the uploading of official scans. Defunct companies are fine as well.

No, not for attention.
Since the beginning this guy only wants to complain without knowing anything there are proper rules for it.
But he can't talk back to support his argument.
