Isn't this a harem?

Also heard
that romance with several of the girls is ruined in the second half but it doesn't sound like most so it would probably still be a harem if that's true...

Even if it's not harem I'm kind of on the fence with this. Been hearing that the first half and second half are vastly different and not in a good way... Not sure what to believe here

It's technically harem, but
The MC only falls for one person and I would say there are only a small amount girls who like him romantically while others like him in a different way.

The first half of this series is pretty much the setup for the things that will happen on the second half.

I wouldn't really say the second half is bad because it's written in a bad way but the second half is bad because the MC gets handed the consequences of his actions in the first half.

If I were to describe this series in a single word, it would be 'Guilt'

Thanks for this. It helps. I think I'll give it a shot.

My only gripe(pet peeve?) is when stuff gets tagged with harem and the guy/girl doesn't send up with several people or in some isn't even remotely interested in the opposite sex.

Obviously not your fault.

I just wish people would stop. It makes things confusing when I'm searching since I'm okay with multiple love interests but not okay with multiple wives/husbands/lovers type of stories.

I got to the part after the last climax recently. From your last words, I think it's unfortunate.

-Big spoilers for the epilogue-
The MC becomes the Emperor and has to marry multiple people politically to keep the continent from crumbling to dust right after surviving a big disaster. 3 of the women in that harem of wives likes him romantically but he doesn't seem to reciprocate it from the way I see it. There's an illustration of it showing him and his harem getting married but he looks awkward about the whole thing.

He has been trying to find the person he loves that left because of dire circumstances and in the last illustration, it shows him giving the ring to her with just the two of them after finally finding her.

Personally I'm indifferent on how the romance/harem ended up, but I'm really happy that I got to experience the journey of this novel.

This is an adaptation only a mother, a novel reader, or a raccoon can love. And yes, I'm calling it a bad adaptation, but I still like it even though the flaws are painful to see

The main character is a prideful asshole and escalates situations constantly for no reason. I don't get why he is this way, he was a failing author in his past life and he's (supposedly) desperately trying to survive here and has no cheat powers. So why does he act like hot shit, pick fights, and even actively bully other characters? The narrative rewards him for it, too. Every single situation turns out in benefit of him. Everyone who is narratively important (or has a vagina) likes him. It's a stupid power fantasy that pretends it's smart by not saying it's a power fantasy at the start.

Does the MC get less annoying? No wonder the dude died due to high blood pressure if he behaved close similar to this in his previous life...

I've read up to Chapter 77 and don't think it's bad per se, but it does feel very "self-inserty"

The MC is an asshole but every woman he knows is in love with him? His personality flaws also just result in the best outcome, each using more convoluted ways than the last-- there were even parts where I thought, "How did that happen?" or "That was resolved surprisingly fast?" which adds to this idea.

Because of all that, a funny thought I had was that the MC was set up to be pretty terrible at writing stories right? And here we are, in one of his stories... So it sort of sets up the idea that the weird characters, strange plot devices, and questionable choices is intentional. But that requires a level of self-awareness that the series clearly doesn't have, so maybe not.

Overall, I don't really know what to make of this one, though it worked as a time killer I guess so 5/10 maybe?
