Regarding the alcohol, I looked this one up. It seems the mangaka or author mixed this one up. "Blanco" refers to a type of tequila (which are made from cacti); South America has several sugarcane based distilled spirits — the one being referred to here is probably Guaro. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Minor correction: while there are alcoholic drinks made from cacti (to wit, colonche), tequila is made from agave. Sorry about that.

The combination of the acidity of the lemon and the sterilizing effects of the alcohol might have taken care of that for him. They haven't mentioned DNA in this series — it wasn't so common and reliable when this series came out (2006), so the author probably decided to simplify the story telling by simply leaving it out.
