That's for the antidote to work. Shinichi and Haibara didn't have colds when they got shrunk.

Since they know that it doesn't always kill, I wonder if they're going to do a much more thorough investigation into all the past murders they've committed with it, to make sure it actually worked in each case. For Shinichi, all they'd have to do is just go to his school and ask any random classmates of his how he's doing.

They already know, Haibara mentioned the effect had been seen in one of the lab rats, that's why they had teams search Shinichi's house when his body wasn't reported. Haibara confirmed his death when she realised he was still alive and Gin doesn't remember the people he's killed, so he's likely in the clear for now.

Like, I would get it if the culprit is someone who has the knowledge and capability to prolong the victim's suffering like the tablecloth shogi case in vol 10, but this is straight up lethal blunt force. Forget about thinking up and making the speed symbol chart and hotel jargon dying message, he would've died after grabbing the chair wheel.

Well the obvious common denominator of the three we know of is they're all very smart. But then you might expect haneda kohji to survive aptx as well. I'm skeptical that it's a genetic factor since it shrank some labrats but not more. Considering most of them are probably related
