Right, I mean logistically it's impossible to have a series go on for 20+ years and not have issues in the timeline considering nobody ages up in this entire span. I mean, if a child such as Conan witnessed that much murder in less than a year, I'm pretty sure Japanese CPS would have carted him off by now lol.
Conan has also quietly modernized throughout the series, going from using payphones in the beginning, to a flip phone, to smart phones. (And Millennials thought they were caught up in the whirl wind technology boom, this poor kid's gone through 20 years of technological advancement within like, 10 months lol)
Which to correct what I said before, I thought it was Gosho himself who said the timeline isn't "canon" but it was actually the Anime's director who made the comment that DC's timeline is "floating". At least, according to the detective conan world wiki lol. But I think both Gosho and the anime producers agree that it's been less than a year since Shinichi shrunk.
I think it was only a fan suggestion and not an official one, but someone once said to only consider the "core plot" (IE anything to do with the organization) episodes/chapters as canon in terms of timeline. Which, to me makes sense and is what I personally go off.
