And if you pay attention to events like Christmas, Tanabata and so on, I'm pretty sure it has to have been several years. So what?
There was one Valentine's Day and one White Day, but not Christmas or Tanabata.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first time Conan isn't present at the crime scene when a case occurred (before the police coming).

You are wrong; there are entire cases where Conan isn't present at the scene at all (Trap in the Convenience Store Case with Ran, Sonoko and Jodie), or arrives late when the solution is already happening (The Murder at Heiji's Kendo Tournament Case in Osaka with Heiji and Kazuha), let alone cases where Conan is involved in the case more but arrives later until after the police are already there. The Policewomen Serial Murder Case (Ch. 1013-1017) is a recent example for that.

That ghost detective premise is awesome. I wish it was a real show.

@7777ale7777 Definitely. That's one thing I remember about John Dickson Carr; in addition to coming up with impossible crimes, he also thought about why the villain was setting up the complex scheme. (Also, the crimes weren't always supposed to seem impossible; frequently, that aspect was a result of something going wrong.)

"I see... So you, the lead actress, went along to a villa in Karuizawa... to location scout for a TV drama?"
"Yes, that's what I just finished telling you a second ago."

The TV drama plot actually sounds interesting tho, I'd definitely watch it. Or is there already anything like that irl?

Maybe iZombie? It's about a woman who becomes a zombie. She asks for a transfer to the morgue, where she has access to brains. She then discovers that she has flashbacks of the last moments of the victims, which she uses to help solve crimes, claiming to be a medium.

I think Gosho's said something before about how the chapters aren't exactly linear/time isn't really cannon in the series. Remember that Shinichi's only been Conan for like, less than a year or something in universe, despite having multiple seasons pass/holiday chapters within the series.

I feel like there's gonna be a secret passageway or something in this case. Something like that vampire mansion case

What unholy dietary abomination is a father-mucking butter sandwich? That noxious thing looked like it had a solid centimeter-thick slab of cow fat on it. No wonder Kogoro's ass exploded. Vile.

@kakage I appreciate your research, but I am dismayed to learn the twinkie and a vanilla oreo had a long slow screw in the flooded basement of Fukushima Daiichi.

Even more alarming, I am shocked it would actually expire so quickly that two days matter. Even plain milk usually lasts an extra two days past the printed day on the bottle/carton. This sounds like a doubly-cursed food.

admittedly I may have been mistaking some christmas specials for actual chapters and/or confused some anime originals to be correlated to chapters that don't actually exist, but there are at least 3 mentions/references of it being christmas time. 939 and 981 both have inferences that they're taking place near christmas, though you could argue that since the chapters are relatively close together they could be happening during the same christmas. But then again, there's this shot from way back in chapter 45, suggesting it's Christmas time here too.

@gomichandesu Good catch. It's probably an oversight, because the author usually takes great care to avoid direct reference to specific time and date in universe. It's always "last week, three months ago, 20 years ago" rather than spelling out the date in certain term.
Though the timeline doesn't make sense anyway, simply because of the sheer amount of cases that supposedly happen in less than a year's time.

Right, I mean logistically it's impossible to have a series go on for 20+ years and not have issues in the timeline considering nobody ages up in this entire span. I mean, if a child such as Conan witnessed that much murder in less than a year, I'm pretty sure Japanese CPS would have carted him off by now lol.
Conan has also quietly modernized throughout the series, going from using payphones in the beginning, to a flip phone, to smart phones. (And Millennials thought they were caught up in the whirl wind technology boom, this poor kid's gone through 20 years of technological advancement within like, 10 months lol)

Which to correct what I said before, I thought it was Gosho himself who said the timeline isn't "canon" but it was actually the Anime's director who made the comment that DC's timeline is "floating". At least, according to the detective conan world wiki lol. But I think both Gosho and the anime producers agree that it's been less than a year since Shinichi shrunk.

I think it was only a fan suggestion and not an official one, but someone once said to only consider the "core plot" (IE anything to do with the organization) episodes/chapters as canon in terms of timeline. Which, to me makes sense and is what I personally go off.
