Yep, I basically agree with your assessment entirely. His last memories with his family will forever be a petty fight where he thinks his mom showed favoritism to Dante as usual followed immediately by neither of them being there for him when he needed them (to absolutely no fault of their own, of course, but that's not really the point when you're a tiny kid scared out of your fucking mind). He ends up only being able to rely on himself and his demonic power. That translates both to a sense of abandonment like his DMC5 motivations while simultaneously playing into his DMC3 motivations that you can't do anything without power, including protecting others like Dante failed to do.

This chapter really fit with Bury the Light chorus, especially the 'Born in Flames, I have been blessed, My Family Crest is A Demon of Death!!!!!'.

A shame that manga skips Nidhogg fight because V and chicken's insults toward him are wonderful, but it's such an inconsequential encounter that I don't really mind.
