A lot of H.C. Andersen's tales were adapted into anime, especially for the World Masterpiece Theater series, though his tale of the mermaid only got a movie...

I'd say specifically The little Mermaid was adapted in countries all over the world, and is one of the most known Andersen's works, especially after Disney's one came out
