Why did you change the name for Saeki-san wa Nemutteru. The official english name given by Kodansha is Dignified asleep Saeki.

You also locked the page. If you do so, I will just stop uploading this series here.

In the future, people will be able to freely choose the display name they prefer for a series. Threatening to stop posting isn't a problem, we respect whatever decision you choose to make. We don't have any naming scheme we officially follow right now.

Recently we had an edit war happening over a few manga titles, and this one was mistakenly changed "back" while fixing the other ones too. We've restored the English name now.

Thanks! Well, my main concern wasn't the name changing, but the locking page. I can change this later if needed (I still don't understand the true reason of using the romaji name when Kodansha already provided us an english title).

Nothing is static, I'll probably have to change the Amazon link when the chapter 2 will be out (they'll probably add a special page). I need the possibility to edit series I'm working on.

The lock is to prevent edit wars.

I've unlocked it now. But if the renaming restarts it will be locked again...

Because English isn't the only language that comics get translated to here and shouldn't get preferential treatment. Using romaji is a compromise in that it's both neutrally representative of the work's name as well as being readable for most of the audience as opposed to using the native script.

@Teasday As someone who doesn't understand japanese characters, when I see a cover, the first thing I'll be able to read is the english title (if available). You may don't understand english, it's simpler to type english characters than japanese characters on your keyboard.

And if I follow this reasoning, wouldn't it be better to change "A Story About Treating a Female Knight, Who Has Never Been Treated as a Woman, as a Woman" (which is also the official name given by the publisher) by "Ima made ichido mo onna atsukaisareta koto ga nai onnakishi wo onna atsukai suru manga" or " The Story of an Onee-San Who Wants to Keep a High School Boy." (which is this one not the official name) by "Danshi Koukousei wo Yashinaitai Onee-san no Hanashi."?

It would be, yes, that's the recommendation. They would devolve into edit wars and whining, though.

Well, in that case, the recommendation is very implicit or even in contradiction with the recommendation when we're creating a page.

In the add tab. The recommendation for name suggests: "Usually English or romanized". So both should be fine.

I guess that hasn't been updated in forever. Doesn't really matter when we finally get the title priority system.

Well, if the title priority system solves that, that's good. ? I do think that if an official english title is available (the one provided by japanese publishers, not by an american publisher), it's best to use this one (simpler to search the title if you can't read japanese and only have the cover).

(I lurked a bit, and it seems that forcing romaji title was rejected: https://mangadex.org/thread/8929/manga-names-rejected)

Anyway, thanks! I have the reason why someone tried to change the title to romaji one. And btw, even with romaji, we're not sure about the writing. The mangaka can always mislead us (https://twitter.com/TheeKick/status/1010393161351303168).

Romaji here would just use standard Hepburn. The Japanese don't use it themselves, which can lead to different "official" romanizations.

Well, this thread wasn't about that and that'll be endless if we're starting to debate about that I guess, so here is my last reply. ?

My only answer is: That depends on the series on MD. Example: Tonikaku Cawaii or 5Toubun. We would normally use another writing imo.

In the end, MD will sometimes take the official romaji. If instead of Dignified asleep Saeki, they wrote Saeki san ha nemutteru, I would likely use this romaji on MD and there's likely no one to complain about that.
