I imagine escorting a ton of cargo is a lot easier than several thousand panic-prone and malnourished civilians. Especially when the orcs are craving human flesh, seeing thousands of walking meatbags might send them into a frenzy.

@darekpawlo Too many people and they're just citizens. They have to protect and feed the refugees while they escort them out of the city. What lord would accept and feed the refugees?

Well, stealing from the merchants is kind of a crap idea.
Yes, it might sound appealing in short term, but you are just causing no more merchants to appear.
Would have been smarter to try to exchange that alcohol
