I LOVE how this chapter is presented.
We usually get a lot of insight into what the MC thinks. But after that bombshell from ML, we get absolutely NOTHING. It gives room for us to process the information ourselves. But it also builds this bubble of tenseness (also from the fact that ML dominates the dialogue thereafter) that finally bursts at the end by the MC's response.
