Japanese animation has existed since the Second World War and has undergone multiple transformations, as well as it has had its trends and peculiarities that go beyond the stories that are told in this media. One thing that could be appreaciated from the 70s is that certain kind of genres have been more present in certain periods and some series had a greater influence in later decades for a new genre or subgenre to appear or even dominate. The first era or period without a doubt is the one about Super Robots with the iconic Mazinger Z but with many more series akin both in the 70s and 80s. This led to the Science-Fiction era all kind of takes in the 80s that took place in a period when Japan was brimming and money was not an issue for studios, so there was more work than ever behind every episode. The third era that continued from that was the Shonen one that many have grow up with that had the great Japanese recession in the middle and can be appreciated with the later series. With the new millenium came the Romance and Urban Fantasy era where many VNs started being animated and it is commonly known as the "big eyes characters era". The fifth one still had many romcoms but the two genres that rose ranks were indubitably Mahou Shoujo and Mecha-Ecchi, which gained a lot of popularity in this period. The sixth and last is the era of escapism, the current one that doesn't require extra explanation: Videogames, Isekai and Fantasy.
Was any of them your favourite one or your favourite series belong all to clearly different eras? Or maybe you have more than one?
