Did you not read the first Doku Mushi? Mari is dead, her mummy was preserved by her father. It was shown quite a few times too. (unless that was a fake corpse, the cult used to control her father.)

People theorize it was a fake corpse (I forget which page it is, but it’s implied that it might be the body of the woman Yukitoshi killed?). There’s also the final page with the mysterious woman holding a baby and watching the events, some people think that was Mari, and that Reiji’s Kodoku was partially a power struggle in the cult between Michika and Mari (with Reiji’s victory legitimizing Mari’s influence).
