Yeah, aside from some special units like AR team basically every doll has to backup their neural map before going on any operation, so there's actually no permadeath.

.....Come to think of it that also means no doll actually remembers their death, so this strip does make sense.

Whew, woke up to this, not a great start to the day lol...I am super glad the anthology is back though ! And I really like this chapter in spite of the feels :’(


Question though: Why is the writing on the fan Korean...? Was the scan they used Korean ? Or maybe the artist ? I’m just kinda confused as to why the Japanese gun in the Japanese anthology comic would use Korean characters for a charm.

Well, at very least the T-Dolls certainly must be aware that they have been revived from backup.

Like say they are backed up before an operation, then the prime version get rekt during that ops.
When they get rebuilt from that back-up they should aware that some time has passed from the last time they backing up their neural cloud and summarize that something might have happened in-between.

@otakubouzu That depends, do you define the person as the meta state at an exact moment with the memories and thought process as a person, or are the memories just enough? Because the philosophical implications are fascinating.

When we talking about 'which one is the real person', yes, it'll be a quite long discussion without definite answer.

My point in this discussion tho, if this Type100 got their memories from backup recovery, then it will be pretty strange for her to not remember or aware about her being (which is implied in this story).

Then again, that depend on what kind of data being backed up in first place. Does they backed all of T-Doll memories up to that point, or just backing up certain data (like combat data etc) without providing context?

I guess we will get the answer with official Manga if they do revive Stg-44
