It's so wild to me how sometimes I'll randomly see older mangakas or other Japanese media shit on the IJA's cruelty but there are more modern ones who will ignore/deny/glorify the IJA as badass warriors.
This IS a 1979 comic. Poorly aged portrayals aside Tezuka was a good one though, both him and Ishinomori were calling out racism years before most of their peers did.

Tezuka also despised works that romanticized the Sengoku period and glossed over all the common folks that were trampled underfoot during the wars. Dororo was his answer to that, among others.
