The word ぶっ掛け (bukkake) just means "splash on" so I'd say the innocuous meaning actually came first before it started getting used in a sexual context (this only started in the 90s). Bukkake udon is a dish where the broth is poured over chilled noodles.

Exactly. It's a perfectly normal word in Japan, given the original non-sexual meaning.

I think this has to do with more people than ever reporting manga (because Mangadex has become more popular now, and anybody can report manga for even the dumbest of things). Maybe the webcomic just got enough reports to get the rating changed? Although to be fair, I am behind by a handful of chapters so perhaps the latest chapters really warrant that rating now.

Anyway, I'm sure staff doesn't have the time to actually thoroughly check and police every title for their content ratings, so unless something with an incorrect rating gets reported or noticed by people with perms, it'll stay at that content rating (it's how plenty of rapey porn BL incorrectly marked as "Safe" often flies under the radar for years).

If a case blurs the line enough between erotica and porn, I believe they prefer to err on the side of caution: a higher content rating (to protect MD from getting banned in more countries: MD is already banned in Italy and Russia for example).

There's probably a moderator team probably looking over comments since there's probably a bunch of discourse/comments to where ppl doing harassment would be a priority (tho i must've accidentally misclicked on some series before because once i got a dm from a moderator saying that i gave 'false reports' or so even tho i don't really remember reporting something too often), but yeah there is straight up hentai uploaded on here meant to be used as 'material' as opposed to enjoying the story even tho there are a handful of porn with plot stuff

But other than the stuff that's obviously hentai with all the tags listed and such, that ppl wouldn't necessarily ignore /filter out a series labeled pornographic with a story if they're still willing to read erotica, unless they're just scrolling in public i guess
