Myanimelist.net says it's complete with 1 Vol and 5 Chapters, which is wrong because this manga is still on-going and has a second Vol released in Japan.

Yeah a prologue seems like the best explanation. Idk much about publication but is it possible it was a one volume contained story that got greenlit for more after? That would also explain the structure. Seems a bit weird to give up the fill conceit after just one part of a potential anthology otherwise.

Ooooh this is the same author as Crocodile Baron! Do yourselves a favor and read that one. It‘s not on Mangadex but you can read the official rips on the usual sites 🏴‍☠️
Though it‘s completely different in tone, it‘s a laid-back slice of life with anthropomorphic animals. I guess the author really likes animals haha.

This seems likely. It’ll explain the rushed pacing in the five chapters and the explaining everything etc.

I can't say if the ending was forced or not. It's like the other comment said, it was supposed to be a short story, but it was given the green light to continue.

Even because there are things that don't make sense. Like the fact that the first MC didn't know about the AHs. Maybe the story will develop further ahead, but so far it has been an interesting read, I'll continue.

Honestly the way this story played out was totally fine for me, and I'm used to a certain level of abruptness. This story could stand alone on its own for its 5 chapters and let the implications of this world's status quo play out in the audience's head, so I don't see a need for a volume 2 even if there is one.

I’m thinking the deer isn’t completely gone, since he already Cheated death Once already With a clone. Even if he did die he coulda end up coming back like the girl and her father did By that solider feeding the head to the “mother”. could make for a good plot twist where he ends up helping the girl.

there also still afew little things we don’t know yet. These animal bodies clearly grow/mature faster then human bodies, so will it affect the girl mentally or will she be stuck as a girl in an adult body. Then of course you have the leaders themselves, did the animal ones do it willingly as a way to lengthen their lifespan or did they managed to rise up from the pens.
